Piano Olympics

Piano Olympics is a leveled award system where students can earn different colored “belts” (not unlike the martial arts) by playing scales, chords, cadences, and arpeggios in designated keys.  The levels progress through the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Then the higher levels move from black, silver, gold, and the newly created platinum.  When a student has passed the requirements for each belt, he/she receives a certificate, colored bracelet, and recognition at the recital.

Practice Champions & Contests

Students have weekly practice goals, such as 30 min per day for 5 days a week.  Those students who meet their practice goals each week for 9 weeks receive a practice champion medal!  Mrs. Owens may also hold a practice contest during a month (usually a slow one like February) and reward the student with the most practice minutes with a prize.

Special Challenges

Mrs. Owens sometimes introduces other challenges for the music studio, such as the 30-piece challenge, the Practice Bulls-Eye Challenge, or a fun-themed short contest of some sort.  There is always something to keep the kiddos motivated!
